I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its incredible understanding and expression of Asberger's syndrome. The court case was a little less believable with witnesses offering far too much info than they were requested to respond to. This made the story somewhat contrived as statements fed into the storyline conveniently. The mystery was predictable but one hopes throughout the story that yet another outcome may be unveiled, to no avail. Nevertheless, I am a sucker for understanding mental disorders so it was a page turner for me.I thoroughly enjoyed this book for its incredible understanding and expression of Asberger's syndrome. Glasser makes a compelling arguement against contemporary psychiatric practices (i.e. reliance on drugs alone.) I did not read the entire book but his recommendations to keep off drugs and rely on major assistance by CB therapy and community coming together for this person instead is incredibly idealistic. Which percentage of the populace has access to these resources. It's a difficult situation indeed.Glasser makes a compelling arguement against contemporary psychiatric practices (i.e. reliance on drugs alone.) Rich with detail. An intelligent read. Shamsie successfully allows the reader to become intimately aware of each characters' nuances, culture and background by her ability to turn prose into a multi-layered painting. I loved the book.

The author was not successful in evoking the emotions intended. I could not relate to the suffering of either the younger or the older lady. The story was rather dull actually. Too much walking and no talking......

Don't believe the jacket. It is vague and implies much but the book does not deliver. I found it very dull. "Plain", as its title.

This book kept my 13 year old away from his ipod. Now that's saying something! There were many interesting facts and topics to tweek discussion. He often told us about a new issue and offered his opinions.
