Soon myriads of holders, craftsmen, and dragonriders were dying; and the mysterious ailment had spread to all but the most inaccessible holds. Pern was in mortal danger. I liked many of the characters in both Moreta --and its sequel, "Nerilka's Story-- but was made depressed by reading of humans dying from the flu and dragons...suiciding...when their riders died---during Pern's Sixth Pass. Thankfully, Nerilka's Story was the more hopeful of the two. Of course, by the time I got to the tragedies of the Third Pass--written years later-- I was ready to say...enough.

Recommended for sure to many teens and octogenerians and those between! I have read most of the entire series. McCaffrey starts using co-writers on some of the later novels. I will never forget the one about the dolphins.
