An exceptionally entertaining collection of short stories that include a few with Deaver's favourite characters and many more that are off the beaten path for the devious one. 'Forever' is more novella length and like a few of the other stories here, revels in the con like that great 1973 movie, 'The Sting.'
A collection of short stories, some pretty good, others not so much. And the last one was over 200 pages..might as well made it a book!
All the time I've been working at the library, I've handled Deaver's novels without thinking twice about them. I assumed they were all of the murder-mystery-solved-by-a-socially-inept-detective-genius variety. This volume of short stories surprised the heck out of me. From the first story, "Fast", Deaver delivers wonderful stories chock full of intriguing characters and fun-to-read twists and turns. Some stories are involve Lincoln Rhyme, one of Deaver's novel characters, but most do not. They are all fun to read and try to figure out what's going on before the end. I'm going to have to read volumes 1 and 2.
classic Deaver for the most part. Good read.
The two previous volumes, Twisted and Twisted 2, were much better than this third volume. Most of the stories did have some interesting twists. The last story had a twist which was disappointing to me, which is which is why I have given this volume only 3 stars.
