A young boy must come to terms with the moral prejudices of his small town in the prairies in the 40's when he befriends the daughter of a young widow who moves in next door. Gracie is unlike anyone Luke has ever met - fun, charming, imaginative and full of life. But when the townsfolk discover that her mother's past is less than completely honourable, they set out to isolate both mother and daughter.

This striking new novel from Valerie Sherrard explores themes of friendship, loyalty, hypocrisy, and forgiveness.

On a scale on 1 to 10 I would probably rate it a 8. I liked it because Gracie is a very positive person, it was sad and scary. If that happend to you than you would probably pee your pants.

Luke Haliwell meets Gracie when Gracie just moves into town and randomly announces "My daddy was a war hero." Gracie is a peculiar character that will capture your interest as you make progress in this story. It has a sad ending, but it is still hard to put down. The story is great, the characters are better. It is worth every single star I rated it - and that would be five.
