This New 52 take on Katana, the Soultaker begins with no actual exposition that clearly delineates her character and setup. However, by the end of the second chapter, you know Katana is both a woman who can't move past her husband's murder and a soul too hard on herself for not being the best fighter. Writer Ann Nocenti fleshes out the stoic, standoffish Katana. She even gives the Creeper a new origin that is 180 degrees different from his outdated origin from creator Steve Ditko. Nevertheless, she and co-writer Dan Didio set up the Creeper for a new life as a villain turned hero. Grade A
