Totally unbelievable, but I thought it was ok.

Nov 12, 2017

A total moronic overload of despicable heroics and non-stop mass destruction... Spare me!

This movie is worth of skipping.

San Andreas is a typical disaster movie with a thin, watery plot, meaningless dialogue, stereotypical characters, and way too much destruction. The main character Ray Gaines played by the Rock is irrationally heroic, maintaining perfect composure in the most dire situations and uttering "Now, we rebuild" when seeing the unfurling of the American flag although it would take centuries to clear and rebuild an immense city like San Francisco after such destruction.

Typical catastrophic mind-numbing video suitable for keeping the kids at bay on a rainy day. The only redeeming part is Sia's ending song, California Dreamin'.

Predictable and formulaic yet done in a surprisingly competent fashion.
A tight script, fast clip pace combined with good special effects made for a tense enjoyable romp.
In the arena of beefcake action stars, Dwayne Johnson shows some decent acting chops.
And the family tragedy backstory was fairly compelling.

I used to like disaster movies until I saw the modern ones. The characters in this movie were not likeable, and I was not compelled to agonise through the entire duration to see if there would be any improvement. I don't think I missed out on anything special. Skip this one.

Kind of what you would expect - lots of action, buildings falling down, etc. Mostly a lot of implausible things, but it's entertainment.

Not the best disaster epic out there, but it’s decent. While the main idea was the natural disaster, the movie also follows the life of the characters, who are all a family, and the struggles they are facing. The main character, Raymond Gaines, played by Dwayne Johnson, is divorcing his wife, Emma Gaines, who has found a new partner, who is extremely wealthy. After disaster strikes California, Raymond is forced to save his family. Raymond works for the fire department and operates a helicopter. He takes his helicopter and attempts to save his family. In the end, his daughter, who seems to have died, comes back to life after a seemingly failed CPR attempt. The family was reunited after this disaster and it was a happy ending. 2/5 Stars

Ben: You're welcome. But it was more like she was there for us. I think.
Ben: [to Blake that trap inside of a vehicle] There's not a chance in hell we're leaving you in there
Ollie: [watching his brother, Ben make out with Blake following a rescue] Mum's going to love her
Serena: Are you saying you think the whole San Andreas fault might go off?

Lawrence: Now the Sendai quake in Japan was considered to be one of the five strongest since 1900. It was so powerful, in fact, that it moved the main island of Japan eight feet. This is just one of the 1.3 million earthquakes that occur around the globe each year. The largest ever recorded here in North America: Anchorage, Alaska, 1964. A 9.1. The earth shook for five straight minutes. The energy release was the equivalent of ten million atom bombs the size of the one dropped on Hiroshima. And that's not the biggest earthquake ever recorded. No, the biggest was four years earlier off the coast of Valdivia in Southern Chile. A 9.5 on the Richter scale. Right there. Bam. This quake lasted eleven minutes and spawned a Tsunami eighty-two feet high that leveled Hilo, Hawaii, eight thousand miles away.
Phoebe: Who should we call?
Lawrence: Everybody.
Lawrence: OK... who wants a "A" in independent class study? I'm starting a new class: "How to save lives by Hacking Media Outlets"
