William and Mary live in Wales and have been married sixty years with four children and five grandchildren. William is a celebrated surgeon, Mary a devoted wife. Both are strong believers in right and wrong. William and Olivia have been together twenty years and share a house in London, enjoying the theatre and restaurants and playing tennis every week. Only one of these stories can be true - but which one? This is the question that confronts clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin when his father is brutally attacked and left for dead. Summoned to the hospital, Joe discovers a stranger at William's bedside, an elegantly dressed woman, covered in his blood. 'Who are you?' he asks. 'I'm his other wife.'

This is the first book I've read by this author and found it engrossing and entertaining. Lots of characters, suspenseful, and with a number of twists and turns and an interesting plot. I took away a 1/2 star because of his injection of a brief but derogatory reference to Donald Trump. So unnecessary, classless, and added zero to the story. While I do read many political books, this is a non-historical work of fiction which I was reading for purely entertainment purposes and, therefore, have no interest whatsoever in the author's political bias especially inasmuch as there was no reference, derogatory or otherwise, to any other real world political figure. Just my opinion. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I always look forward to a new mystery in the Joe O'Loughlin series!! Mr. Robotham is great at character development and accurately depicting the psychological intricacies of love, loss, ill-health, and murder. Highly recommend. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Always a pleasure to approach a novel by Michael Robotham. His prose is flawless, his insight into the psychological fissures cutting across lives is masterful, and his ability to bring characters to live with subtlety and dignity is, at times, heart wrenching. And in this novel, Robotham twists readers away from the usual darkness (and occasionally, degradation) that defines so many of his previous works into what can be best described as a domestic novel. Struggling a bit with being father to two daughters, Joe O’Loughlin is also forced to deal with several disturbing revelations about his own father, the famous surgeon-philanthropist William O’Loughlin. As secrets are uncovered, and realizations pile up, Joe must confront many of his own assumptions: about family, loyalty, trust, love, and power. Whereas a “typical” Robotham novel (if there is such an animal) is jagged and razor-like, this one is much more tender, as much emotional as it is psychological and tender while deeply engaging.

Robotham is fearless in his development of complex, fluid characters, but I am especially interested to see more of the trajectory that he has set for Emma, O’Loughlin’s youngest daughter. Indeed, and as always, there is much to anticipate in coming novels.

Another excellent book by this author. I've no other choice but to start buying his books as it appears I now have read all of the ones held by the library. This is a tragedy in itself!

Great read. Heard Michael Robotham speak recently about his fascination with secrets. And his encounters with real "other wives".

Never read this author before. I couldn't put it down. Like the way he writes, topical ; concise descriptive language gets you rapidly involved with the story. Definitely looking forward to reading more from this author and certainly recommend .
