"The New Amateur Naturalist" (or alternate title of "First-time Naturalist") is an excellent guide on how to to observe nature as a naturalist. The book is written from the personal perspective of the author, Nick Baker. Anecdotes and funny little bits appear in the more serious descriptions. The book discusses the kit a naturalist would find useful. The variety of life and where it can be found is covered. The best part and most useful are the numerous project descriptions. Some are things to build, while others are techniques of obervation that an amateur naturalist could find useful. The book is completely worthwhile. The book was published under two different titles.
