A mostly-solid fantasy work. I liked that Card doesn't forget that people in the past thought differently, as well as lived differently.

Does anyone remember what Ivan's kids' names are?

I thoroughly enjoyed this fairy tail twist, with good character development. I read this book after being introduced to Card’s writing thru Ender’s Game.

I love Orson Scott Card and the Shadow series, and I love fairy tales. Imagine my delight when he combined the two. I admit, i was a little suspicious, being that I haven't read anything really of his that is set out of Ender's world, but this book was perfect.

It starts off a little slow, every book needs time to lay down its back story. But this book is extremely clever and entertaining. blending modern day into old fairy tales.
