Most people came to the Song of Ice and Fire series by watching the Game of Thrones on HBO. That series is 1% George RR Martin and 99% HBO. I have the entire series in paperback and hardcover and was bored to tears reading them. I thought listening to the audio CDs would be better, but it was even worse. Martin spends a ridiculous amount of time describing the most mundane of things that add nothing to the plot. It should not take 23 pages to describe a place (the veil) or forty pages to describe an event that takes 2 minutes in the show. Granted the show was taken from the novels but they were selective. No one would want to make a series of Martin's entire novels. They're just too tedious. To put it in perspective, compare this to Harry Potter. Everyone makes fun of the ridiculous length of Goblet of Fire. That's half the size of this one. Puts it in perspective, doesn't it? The narrator is well-chosen, but the material is slooooooow. Like watching air move across a room. :0 A better name for this would be 28 discs of long conversations of old men.
