Ever seen the Vincent Price classic "The House On Haunted Hill'? About as scary as an episode of "Scooby Do", right? Well, this remake takes everything from the fifty year old movie and turns it up to 11. Where Vincent Price played a suave millionaire, this one has Steven Price (cute), who joyfully overacts as a carnival barker/builder of theme parks. A haunted house where people were murdered? How about a haunted insane asylum where the vengeful patients killed the staff? 10K to spend the night? How about a million dollar check to spend the night? A few drops of blood? How about a whole vat of blood? A few ghosts? How about a huge, lurking evil who's waiting patiently for revenge? The special effects are great and the movie has a lot of beautiful visuals. The basic story is the same, yet I think the ending is flawed by the biggest "Never mind" that I've ever seen. Sharp eyed viewers might spot James Marsters (Spike on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer") as the camera operator for the opening interview with Steven Price.
