Visually exquisite. As with many French films, I did not connect with the main female character or believe anyone's "love" for anyone else. It feels like objectification and self-gratification. The elder Renoir's pathos and strength as his hands became more gnarled and painful and the dynamics of the women of the household as they cared for him were much more real and poignant.
