I assume this is for young adult readers who might like the romance of the characters. The author uses flashbacks to try to explain the pasts of the two main characters, which feels forced, a way to keep the reader reading. The characters are Dickensian in that they are all 100% good people except for two villains who are 100% bad. Even when one of the good ones does something slightly wrong, it's for an almost saintly reason. The ending is a foregone conclusion from very early on. So, two-dimensional characters and a predictable plot. Two stars at most.
