Have zoomed through this fantastic debut. Telling the story of three generations in one family, the author switches back and forth between timelines (1940s, 1980s, 2010s) which may be distracting to readers who prefer a linear narrative. However, I felt that the timelines were well done and enhanced a sense of understanding/perspective for the characters over time. This is an important read that addresses racial macro and microaggressions, systemic racism, and generational poverty. I found it to be incredibly thought-provoking and emotional.
