Not sure what to make of this latest story in the D/I Faraday series. I like Joe Faraday but Hurley has continually cut his time down in the stories while giving Paul Winter more. The Winter character and his crime boss Bazza Mackenzie are quite distracting and nowhere near as interesting as Faraday. In fact I find myself speeding through their parts. The result in this story for me is that the plot was predictable and lame at the best of times. The fake kidnapping that is yawned away and the obvious perpetrator in the cold case made for a Hurley book that was not up to par for him.
